Summer Session enrollment is open to all current CI students, students from other two- and four-year institutions, juniors and seniors in high school, and other interested persons from the community.
If you are a continuing CI student
Summer at CI offers you an opportunity to catch up, speed up or round out your graduation requirements.
If you are a student at another college or university and are spending the summer in Ventura County
CSU Channel Islands offers a unique, diverse selection of courses which may satisfy your school’s core requirements.
If you are a high school junior or senior in the fall
Use the summer to strengthen your college application and focus on an area you always wanted to know more about or are considering as a major.
(Some courses require the approval of the instructor or completion of prerequisites. This will be noted in the schedule. Formal admission to the University is not required to enroll in courses in the summer, and conversely enrolling in does not constitute or ensure regular admission to the University.)

Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees, without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter had begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by The Board of Trustees. The fees listed here will be contingent upon the decision by the Legislature. These fees do not apply to special session degree credit courses and programs, or state-supported courses scheduled in the summer.

Summer Financial Aid
Students attending summer courses through Extended University may be eligible for financial aid; however only continuing CI students who register for at least six (6) credits will qualify for an evaluation of financial aid eligibility. All students meeting this criterion must have completed the 2009-10 FAFSA application prior to applying for summer funds. Generally, the financial aid available will be the remaining eligibility from fall and spring and may include grants and loans. Students that currently do not have financial aid assistance for the spring semester must complete the FAFSA application to determine eligibility. The FAFSA application is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The CSUCI School Code is 039803. Students who are State University Grant eligible, may qualify for a State University Grant to assist with the registration fees for summer coursework. For more information, please contact the Financial Aid office at (805) 437-8530.
Promissory Notes (click here): All students who qualify and are using financial aid to pay for summer courses will need to fill out a promissory note. This is a contract between the student and CSU Channel Islands stating that financial aid will cover all summer course fees. It is also a binding agreement promising that if for any reason financial aid does not cover these fees the student is responsible to pay all outstanding fees within a timely manner. Please read carefully and submit to the Extended University Office with registration form. Please note that if this form is not sent with registration you will be unable to use financial aid to cover summer course fees. For further information on the promissory note process, call (805) 437-2748.

Applicability of Summer Session Courses to Degree Programs
Courses taken in Summer Session are applicable to the programs of any CI matriculated student (i.e., a student who is admitted to and enrolled in any CI degree/credential/certificate program, in good academic standing in the Spring of 2010, and who did not graduate in Spring 2010) in the same way that Fall or Spring semester courses are applicable. Non-matriculated students (those not admitted and enrolled in a CI degree program) may apply a maximum of 24 credit units taken as a non-matriculated student to any CI baccalaureate degree program to which they might later apply. Non-matriculated students may only apply up to nine credit units taken as a non-matriculated student to any CI graduate degree, credential, or graduate credit certificate program to which they might later apply. In all cases, which courses taken as a non-matriculated student shall apply to a particular degree, credential or certificate program is the decision of the department chair responsible for that program. All courses offered in the CI Summer Session are regular CI academic credit courses and are fully transferable to other institutions. However, it is always up to the receiving institution to determine how transferred courses will be applied to any of its own particular academic programs. Students who are enrolled in or plan to enroll in programs at other colleges or universities for the 2010/2011 academic year should seek guidance from these institutions regarding which CI Summer Session courses would be most appropriate in the light of their individual academic goals.
